Tryout FAQs

How many teams per age group

We will never have more than 2 full teams in an age group so we do make cuts every tryout. This is to differentiate from the "money grab" programs that take every player.

Is there a cost to attend tryouts?

No, there is no cost to tryout!

What should players bring to the tryout?

Please bring basketball shoes, water, a reversible jersey (if available), and a positive attitude!

What happens after tryouts?

All participants will receive an email within 3–5 days with results, next steps, and team placement if selected.

What makes High IQ Basketball different?

We focus on developing leadership, discipline, and basketball IQ — both on and off the court — in a highly supportive, team-first environment.

Where and what days/times are practices?

We practice up to twice per week in one of the schools in the Commack School District. All days schools are closed or have school events in the gyms, we do NOT have practice. We practice any day Monday-Friday, the time falling in between 6-10pm. We make sure to schedule the younger groups in the earlier time frames first. All game and practice schedules will be posted through the SportsYou app.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RISK
I understand that participation in basketball and related activities involves inherent risks, including but not limited to slips, falls, physical contact, collisions, equipment failure, head injuries, concussions, serious bodily injury, or death. These risks may arise from the actions, omissions, or negligence of participants, coaches, staff, volunteers, or others.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK
I knowingly and voluntarily assume all risks, both known and unknown, associated with my child’s participation in any and all High IQ Basketball activities, including practices, games, training sessions, camps, clinics, events, and related travel.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY
In consideration of my child being permitted to participate, I hereby release, waive, and discharge High IQ Basketball, its directors, officers, coaches, staff, volunteers, sponsors, facility owners, and affiliated entities from any and all claims, demands, causes of action, or liability arising out of or related to participation, including claims arising from negligence, except for gross negligence or willful misconduct.

This Release shall be governed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of New York.

MEDICAL AUTHORIZATION
I authorize High IQ Basketball and its representatives to obtain emergency medical treatment for my child if deemed necessary. I understand and agree that I am financially responsible for any medical expenses incurred.

CODE OF CONDUCT
I acknowledge that my child is expected to follow all rules, safety instructions, and directions given by High IQ Basketball staff. Failure to comply may result in removal from activities without refund.
